What is a "Quality" Child Care Center?

By: twinmom

Many mom's always ask the simple question, "What is a quality child care program?" A lot of people have different ideas about what a good daycare is all about, and I think a lot of parent looking for daycares are not sure themselves what a good quality in home daycare is. So what we are going to do today is list 5 important criteria that I think every daycare should have. Not only from a survival standpoint but from the concept of providing a service that will flourish from years to come.

Criteria #1

Every daycare whether it be in-home or in a group center must have a loving consistent provider. There must be no teacher turnover, and there must be an idea of stability in the childcare center. If parents get the idea that there is teacher turnover and there is someone different taking care of their child parent’s will be unhappy and leave. Children and Parents are much happier with a consistent caregiver who “has a relationship” with that child and family.

Criteria #2

Your daycare should have a stable, relaxed, loving, and educational environment. That’s a whole mouth full, but it’s the honest to God truth. If parent’s and employee’s feel that you are stressed, can’t find things (like that missing shoe) unhappy, unstable, unorganized they will detect it and wonder about the quality of your program and whether they should keep attending. Letting them know about your problems will only show you as incompetent. And I think that goes for everything in life.

Criteria #3

There should be an educational curriculum suited for each age group. Too many times I hear comments “Sally is getting into so much trouble”. Children need to be kept busy, the same goes for adults. If we have nothing that stretches our minds we get into trouble with things that we should not be doing. Children love activities and experimenting with new things. They should not be sitting in front of a T.V. set. Parents love getting those little project’s and paintings when they pick up their child. It makes them feel good that their child is learning and had a great day.
